Vibration isolation and damping.

Rubber blocks can be used to isolate vibration or to dampen vibration. The two properties are very different and are used according to each application. Metflex currently supplies a range of materials with different stiffness and damping characteristics. Other factors which also need to be considered include:

• Temperature range of service
• Chemical resistance
• Flame resistance
• Mechanical strength
• Long term ageing and durability
• Consistency

An understanding of vibration damping first came about through our research into acoustic materials for loudspeakers.
